I am a black woman who started her hair loc (dreadlock) journey a year ago. For many, the loc journey goes beyond just appearance and a hairstyle - it can be a spiritual journey. It can be religious. Or it could be a form of self love - accepting and embracing their natural selves, leading to finding and falling in love with their true identity. There has been an increase worldwide in the number of individuals who have chosen to begin their loc journey. As a recently loc'd woman myself, through my own use of social media I see the number of women who have been on or who have recently started their loc journey.
My observation is that people like to or want to wear clothing that they identify with and relate to. For this reason I would like to create a logo which illustrates a woman with her loc'd crown. Women's hair is often referred to as their crown. I intend to use this logo and place it on various items for sale; such as t shirts, tote bags, jewellery and other accessories. There will always be room for this brand to grow with time. Men also wear locs. However at this time, my intended audience is women. A logo aimed at men may be in the pipeline in future.
With the growing number of loc'd women, I believe there is a market for this all throughout the African diaspora. As I live in the UK myself, the UK will be my main target audience, but there is definitely potential in the US and other countries with a substantial black population. For me, my locs make me feel like a queen - an Empress. Hence the brand name.
